I REALLY wanted to like this novel. The first chapter hooked me-- bad stuff is going to happen to the likable guy who sees dead people. And NOTHING happens for the next 200 pages. Well, almost nothing-- Odd discovers this Black Room with mysteriously cool properties. The Black Room keeps me hooked a...more...

My impression is that Dean Koontz enjoys writing the Odd Thomas series. I can understand why. Koontz has managed to create a likable character who converses the reader through horror situations with a light hearted banter. Odd, huh? The character, whose name is literally Odd, managed to draw me in w...more...

This book was the February 2010 group read for the Goodreads Koontzland group, so I read it for the second time, having first read it a few years ago and forgotten much of it. Odd Thomas is a small-town fry cook who seems to have the ability to see dead people and predict death. He has...more...

Odd Thomas, a simple yet extraordinary character. A very likable and enjoyable guy, yet his story is heavy, dark, and heartbreaking. Odd is simple and humble and perfectly happy being a fry cook (although Tire World is looking interesting), owns no car, and lives that old saying that you spend you...more...

My wife and I listened to this (as an audiobook) during our Christmas-time travel home. We had both read a couple other Koontz novels and we trusted him to keep us awake and entertained. We were not disappointed. Setting: A small world town - Pico Mundo. Pretty generic, by design. Lots of...more...

This is my first Koontz book and unlike my recent loss of Nicholas Sparks virginity this deflowering was a pleasant experience. I like odd stuff, the unusual, quirky and bent is what floats my boat. I love the whole wabi-sabi aesthetic and Koontz has a way of finding beauty in ugliness that I can a...more...

I don't usually care much for Dean Koontz. I have no pretentious bias against popular fiction (I quite like some of it, actually), but Koontz is generally a bit too pedestrian for my tastes. I found Odd Thomas to be quite a surprise, though. Odd Thomas features a cast of eccentric and flawed char...more...

You might think I am making an editorial comment about a person by calling Mr Thomas "Odd". Rather, the name of the book by Dean Koontz is Odd Thomas and follows a set of events in the life on a young man of 21 who's given first name is in fact "Odd". Yep, he goes by the nickname...more...

Pretty awesome! Odd Thomas (yes, that's his real name) is not your typical hero. He lives in a small town with charming and quirky friends and his soulmate, Stormy, and he can see dead people. But not average spooks, the ones who haven't moved on, and some who need him to bring peace to their deaths...more...

I had heard good things about this book, so at the last flea market I decided to pick it up and try it. Where I live we have a flea market every month, so I can usually find good books (some first editions) at great prices. At this one I picked up Odd Thomas (HC first edition) and Different Seasons ...more...
