George is having problems being a new dad – he literally can’t touch his son. At the advice of his therapist he starts writing about when his dad died (he was 11). The story is told through a series of journals, mostly taking place in the past through the eyes of 11-year old George. After his da...more...

Well, okay... I'm not sure where to start. I guess I'll start by saying, first, I really liked the book, and second, it gave me nightmares. It's essentially about a man recalling about a 6 month period of his childhood, he was 11 years old. He hashes through this in therapy because he's a...more...

Probably 4.5 stars. Just not 5 because it's too scary and creepy for everyone, and I'd rather keep 5s for books that I'd recommend to ANYONE. In fact, I think this book was too creepy for me! It was so well written and what a plot. Twists and turns... it was one wild ride. I couldn't put it dow...more...

This is great! Creepy, thoughtful, and scary the way a good book can be scary because it resonates on a personal level with characters, motivations, and situations seem particularly real and relatable. The suspense just builds and builds, and kept me guessing at how things were going to turn out a...more...

I wanted to like this book - I really did. The Exorcist and Rosemary's Baby both utterly creeped me out and had consistent plot lines, neither factor of which was to be found in this book. Sadly, the plot kind of meanders in places - the possession stuff wasn't as scary as I would have liked. The...more...

I love the unsettled feeling this book gave me from the start. The first person narrative sets the tone right away that you might not be given information that you can really trust. The religious diatribe was a nice thread as well- what can we truly believe? The writing really hooked me, ...more...

Yeah, I could just sum up the book by saying that the narrator was possessed by a demon as a boy, but after finishing the book I realize its not that simple. This book could have gone capital S Spooky and explained the strange incidents of George, the narrator's, boyhood with some remarkable evidenc...more...

Balancing possession and psychosis on the edge of a knife Evans walks through what can be seen as a compare and contrast exercise. Is George sick? Does George host a demon? As the book progresses we walk through these questions. Evans refuses to argue for one or the other, allowing psychology and "...more...

Evans has given us a book that tackles some of the darkest territory of growing up. It is at once an account of a boy coming to grips with the loss of his father and his troubled and complicated realtionship with him in the late seventies and a strange supernatural thriller about the existence and n...more...

I am not sure why this book received all the reviews about it being really scary. The "scariest" thing that happened in this book was the shower door opening and closing by itself. Woooo Scary! So the premise is is this adolescent boy a violent schizophrenic or is he possessed by a demon...more...
