Less of an encyclopedia/guide and more of a collection of mini-essays with insightful commentary on medieval culture. The end result is a nice overview of the middle ages given by some of the top medievalists in the field. However, the subjects touched on to seem a bit scattered and lacks cohesion....more...

Haven't read the whole book, obviously, but it has been helpful for the occasional reference. None of these articles will be a sufficient source unto itself if you are writing a paper on one of these subjects, but no encyclopedia article ever is. There is a longer, 2 volume version which I believe...more...
