Of the many attributes that make a fine professional photographer there are three specific areas that you the client should consider. I have worked with many professional photographers in the last 10 years and these three key attributes continue to come up in conversation.
Three things to remember when choosing a professional photographer in Houston, Texas is not only do they have all of the best professional equipment but they should understand how to capture and control light. A good first question is “looking at me, how would you LIGHT my figure.” If your photographer says, “I only use natural light” this should be a red flag that the individual does not have a clear knowledge of photography.
Your photographer should be able to use not only natural light from the sun but also be able to control light through the use of strobes (flashes), reflectors, umbrellas, soft boxes and other light modifiers. Most fine timeless photographs have at least 2 light sources and often times 3.
Next, ask your prospective photographer how much post processing or enhancement knowledge they have. In the twenty first century, a deep knowledge of Photoshop and related plugins is essential to providing the best quality available. It may have been cool to be proud of those “straight out of the camera” photos in the mid 90’s but in 2011, photoshop or lightroom is required.
Finally, your photographer should have an open and friendly personality. If you find yourself stiff and unable to laugh at your photographers jokes during the first conversation, it will probably be hard to feel comfortable when you capture the photographs together.
A) Ensure they your photographer has a strong knowledge of how to capture light
B) Ask the photographer about they Photoshop knowledge
C) Make sure your photographer has an open and friendly personality
