Things aren't going well for Roger. All a consequence of his past. A past he must return to, however much he dreads it. He must confront the monster in his childhood and face the devastating truth. A truth he fears may kill him.
As a writer, Ron won his first acclaim at the tender age of six when he took first prize in an Annapolis Valley student writing contest. He immediately abandoned all forms of written communication and spent nearly all of his adult life bouncing from one profession to another. He still doesn't write letters, something his mother rides him about to this day. Find out more »
Ron spent most of his childhood in Bear River, the Nova Scotia town featured in "Hiding from Eddie." At fifteen, he ran away from home and never looked back (well, not often). Living on the streets of Halifax, one of his most vivid memories is the November night he slept under a tree outside an elementary school. He awoke the next morning to find curious children staring. It was time to rejoin society.
He made it as far as the periphery and decided that was where he would stay. He's led the life of an artist every since.
A graduate of the Emily Carr College of Art and Design in Vancouver, the same alma mater as Douglas Copeland, Ron hasn't earned one single penny as an artist. However, he has had numerous other careers: musician, actor, computer programmer, cab driver, biology lab assistant, salesman, skip tracer, industrial video director, graphic designer, car rental clerk, short order cook, underage waiter in a strip joint, paste-up artist (okay, so he earned a few pennies as an artist), stock clerk, truck driver, technical writer, and mowing around the tiger cages at the Calgary Zoo. In short, after collecting so many varied experiences, he had no other choice but to once again embrace writing as a career.
Ron holds a black belt in Uechi-Rye Karate Do and two diplomas in interpersonal skills from Integro International. From these roots (as well as others) came the inspiration for the physical training and philosophy depicted in "Hiding from Eddie."
Currently, Ron lives a quiet life with his wife and their cat in a small town in Ontario.
