Summary

Linden Bradley, an American biologist, is invited down to Brazil to help rescue animals dislodged by flood when the biggest hydroelectric project in the world goes online. She meets Cole Dominguez, a rancher who dreams of beating Argentina's monopoly on the export of beef. Linden has a one-year sabbatical from her research facility in New York State. She and Cole fall deeply in love, but both have a lot of old wounds to work through before their love has a chance. Cole has been cynical about marriage since his beloved mother divorced his equally loved father, and Linden is divorced from a diplomat, who was secretly ashamed of her being mulatta.
