In 1895, Wilde was charged with sodomy and sexual offences to minors. His family and friends urged him to flee the country, but Wilde was determined not to run from his problems. Wilde was sentenced to the maximum punishment of two years of imprisonment and hard labour at Reading Goal.
After his release from prison, Oscar spent his last years wandering Europe. Unfortunately, his health and spirit never returned after the imprisonment. Wilde died in Paris on 30 November, 1900 and was buried without ceremony.
