Summary:

The threat of nuclear war or serious nuclear accident remains with us. Tom Law argues that these risks are increasing to a chilling degree with the continued proliferation of nuclear facilities, particularly in the emerging economies of Asia. The rise of terrorism, concurrent with the spread of nuclear technology into fundamentalist Islamic countries, brings a new ingredient of uncertainty to the present balance. Only a new approach of awareness and tolerance can prevent an imminent slide into chaos. The exponential rise in human population amid depleting material and energy resources presents even more pressing problems. Ways must be found to solve these in the very near future. It will take an extraordinary turnaround in our present thinking as well as a letting go of western materialism if the right road is to be trodden. The stakes are high - the very survival of humanity.

Author biography:

Tom Law was born in Glasgow a very long time ago. He migrated to Melbourne, Australia with his parents in 1961 where he completed his secondary and tertiary education. He has been a poet, songwriter, teacher and builder of boats and stone houses. In recent years he has lived in Indonesia, teaching in various educational institutions and travelling extensively throughout the archipelago (which he pronounces ‘archy pellargo’). Tom has two adult sons by his first marriage and is now remarried to an Indonesian with one daughter. His favourite haunt is the more remote forests, valleys, streams and chasms of the Highlands in Eastern Victoria, Australia. Hobbies include sailing, folk music, writing, walking and dreaming… but mostly dreaming.
